men det var egentlig bare lige fordi jeg hørte lidt joe jones og hans skulpture.

Playing for pocket change.

Jeg passerede Saw Lady i undergrunden på union square en dag i denne her uge. Jeg kan ikke lige huske hvilken.
Jeg spekulere altid på, om der mon findes en blog med musikken fra gademusikanterne i NYC hver gang jeg er her. Man støder altid ind i et eller andet obskurt musik på de forskellige metro-stationer. Og der sælges gerne cd'er... (noget at samle på?)
Og nu var der tilfældigvis en hjemmeside på damen-med-savens t-shirt: Så starter surfningen og Suddenly Tragic Productions har indtil videre produceret fire korte afsnit om gademusikanterne.

Ol' Times ··· Israel i Egypten, Grønland og deslignende

Idag er det 122 år siden, at det man længe troede (indtil et par år siden) var den ældst bevarede optagelse fandt sted (- ja, der er vidst et rekordagtigt tema kørende her). Og det synes jeg næsten I skal høre. For det er et kor på 4000 mennesker, der synger Händels "Israel in Egypt" ved The Crystal Palace Händel Festival i 1888. Men det lyder nu ikke helt sådan længere. Det kan findes her med en lille bonus af andre gamle optagelser (der oprindeligt stammer herfra med flere spændende sager).
Faktisk er det en franskmand der hed Éduard-Léon Scott de Martinville, der eftersigende står bag de allertidligste optagelser - såkaldte phonautogrammer optaget af en phonoautograf patenteret helt tilbage i 1857 (se evt. mere her).



Og nu når vi er ved historiske optagelser, så vil jeg gerne reklamere for denne samling af traditionel musik fra Grønland optaget mellem 1905 og 1987. Samlet af den danske etnomusikolog (eller hvad det nu hedder), Michael Hauser. Han har også skrevet en bog, som jeg lige har lånt, bl.a. med flotte billeder i




På ovennævnte samling er der dog ikke nogen eksempler på Inuitternes strubesang. Det kan I eksempelvis finde på Ubuwebs etnopoetics (her fra Canada godt nok) - nærmest en blanding af tung stønnen, mystisk beatboxing og noget tredje jeg simpelthen ikke ved hvad hedder. Det er nogle sanglege som kvinderne foretog sig mens alle mændene var ude og jage. Og det er virkelig noget for sig!

og tak for klaverstykkerne, kristian - de er virkelig flotte. (Selvom jeg nu godt kan få det lidt svært når hr. Prokofiev beslutter sig for at der skal ske en hel masse på ganske kort tid, der er nok noget jeg mangler at lære). Men helt og aldeles uforceret fra hr. Richters side af. Let og tungt på samme tid - gad vide hvordan sådan noget kan lade sig at gøre!?

Ol' Times ··· en stor døv, død mand, blodmanglende piger i sneen og deslignende




Tillad mig at præsentere monsieur Alphonse Allais:

Mest af alt en digter og forfatter, der levede i Paris, blev født i 1854 og døde i 1905. Jeg har ikke endnu læst hans skriverier, men de skulle eftersigende være ret spøjse og ganske underholdende. Han er samtidig også ophavsmanden til den ældst kendte komposition uden en eneste lyd i sig, hvilket var det, der bragte mig på sporet af ham; nemlig Marche Funèbre Composée Pour les Funérailles d'un Grand Homme Sourd - "dødsmarch komponeret for begravelserne af en stor, døv mand", 24 blanke takter med tempoangivelsen lento rigolanda – noget i stil med "langsomt med stor nøjagtighed".
Det er lidt usikkert, så vidt jeg ved, hvornår stykket blev komponeret, men det blev i al fald udgivet i 1897 i en samling af værker kaldet Album Primo-Avrilesque (55 år før 4'33'') :



I samme album er der også printet 7 malerier, hvor det første blev vist frem allerede ved en udstilling i 1884 (muligvis sammen med ovennævnte komposition), helt og aldeles hvidt:


en oversættelse af titlen kan lyde noget i stil med "unge anæmiske pigers første kommunion i en snefyldt tid" (anæmi er en form for blodmangel og første kommunion er et katolsk ritual i stil med konfirmationen)

Jeg kan ikke finde oversættelser af dem alle og google translate yder en til tider tvivlsom hjælp, men jeg har tænkt mig at spørge en franskkyndig en af dagene. Og I får lige resten af billederne, de er så flotte !

Svjatoslav Richter




Schubert: Klaver Sonate Nr.14 i A-, Op.143 D.784
og Prokofiev: Klaver Sonate Nr.8 i Bb, Op.84

Endelig fandt jeg tid til at få lagt noget Richter op jeg har haft intension om det sidste halve år... I sidste uge spillede jeg de her to kompositioner af Schubert og Prokofiev med Richter på tangenterne i städels lydstudie.

Jeg synes at der er noget der går igen i begge kompositioner. Eller fordi de modsiger hinanden. Det kan også være udførelsen..? Der er ikke nogen kompositorisk sammenhæng som sådan mellem de to valgte stykker. Det er nok mest af alt nærværet af Richter der kæder dem sammen. Men måske er det også Prokofievs sensible opbrydning af form der modsvare Schubert?

Fortællingen er forskellig. Schubert er næsten monoton og meget repeterende mens Prokofiev mest er hurtigt fortællende og skæv.


Jeg lavede en plakat i anledning af den lille lytte event* i silketryk. Den er trykt med blå og sølv, men det kan ikke rigtig ses på fotoet. *Er der noget godt ord for denne slags event? Lidt som ordet "screening" om film. Så sig lige til. Jeg kan simpelthen ikke komme på noget. Det bliver til musikklub eller lydbiograf. Og de er ord jeg ikke er særlig glad for. Helst et verbum.?
