Om aftenens fire udvalgte film og live-soundtracks:
Primary focus falls upon two 20 minute narrative pieces, the first entitled Journey of the Soya Bean. This is a strange never-before-seen gem of Danish silent cinema, a kind of "industrial travelogue" with heavy ethnographic overtones as we follow the journey of the humble soya bean from the dusty poverty-stricken plains of China all the way around the world by mule team, barge and freighter to the factories of the West where it is refined into various industrial products. With its almost poetic focus on how Soya is grown, harvested and transported, it vaguely resembles a mini version of Ernest Schoedsack's 1925 epic, Grass: A Nation's Battle for Life, and yet it is very much an artefact of the later-period Industrial Revolution. A must-see item for any Danish film historian or dedicated cineaste. Lamburg Tony and Hyæne accompanies this industrial travelogue with eletronic sounds, echo box and heavy ethnographic overtones.
Mental Hospital is an American educational film from 1953 that tells in film-noir imagery the story of one troubled man's trip through the Oklahoma State mental hospital, injections, electro-shock and hydro therapy – and happy ending - included. Alle med Balloner og terrasser sets the mood with playful sounds, inarticulate vocals and stumbling drums and percussion.
Finally, the evening will offer two American 1950´s scientific short films: Mysteries of the Bat and Revenge of the Electric Eel. Two films that explore the freakish characteristics of these fascinating and bizarre creatures. The monstrous and quit intimidating bat is accompanied by Natskygge's haunting ambience and heavy drones. The fascinating world of the electric eel and the liquid movements of this peculiar animal are set to music by Thule on the guitar and other electric devices.
